Denken sphinx nicht starten - "Fehler beim starten searchd daemon"

Ich versuche zu starten, denken sphinx auf meinem server aber es will nicht funktionieren.

Ich tun:

$ rake thinking_sphinx:index && rake thinking_sphinx:start

Und ich bekomme:

Be sure to run thinking_sphinx:index before thinking_sphinx:start

Mein server-system ist Ubuntu 10.04. Auch auf meinem lokalen Rechner (Mac OS X) funktioniert es perfekt.
