Wie kann ich html5-video-inline in einem WebView?

Ich muss spielen, ein html5-video-inline in einem WebView. Ich fand eine Technik, die funktionieren soll, aber es funktioniert nur sporadisch (siehe Ende der Frage). Wenn es nicht funktioniert, onShowCustomView nicht genannt. Kann mir jemand einen Grund sehen, dass dies nicht funktioniert, oder eine alternative vorschlagen?
